Jnana Mudra is a sacred hand movement or “seal ılan which is used as a means of channeling the flow of vital life power energy known as Prana during yoga and meditation practices.
Jnana Mudra, which is known as the movement of consciousness or the seal of the seal, is one of the most widely used during the practice of meditation.
The name is derived from Sanskrit Jnana, which means “wisdom” or “knowledge, and the mudradan, which means“ gesture ”.
To apply this mudra, the index finger is squeezed under the end of the thumb to form a circle and the remaining three fingers are extended.
The back of the hands can withstand the thighs or knees with the palm of the palms.
Although Jnana Mudra can be applied in any yoga asan, it is most commonly used in a fixed seating position such as Sukhasana (easy exposure) or Padmasana (Lotus posture).
A variation of this movement is to create a complete circle by touching the end of the index finger and the thumb.
For maximum benefit, this should be applied for at least 15 minutes 2-3 times a day during this mudra meditation. When applying Jnana Mudra, the body should be awake, but it should be comfortable, there should be little or no tension in the arms or extended fingers.
Jnana Mudra; Buddhism is the old and extremely symbolic applied in various religious and spiritual traditions such as Hinduism and Yoga. While the thumb is believed to symbolize Brahman or universal consciousness, the index finger symbolizes jivatma or individual self.
Therefore, the connection of the thumb and index finger in Jnana Mudra represents the unity of supreme and inner realities. The remaining three fingers represent the three qualities of nature: Sattva, Raja and Tamas (balance, movement and inactivity).
According to Ayurveda, Jnana Mudra can be used to balance the agni (fever) and wayu (wind) elements in the body.
During the meditation, applying this mudra helps to calm and stabilize the mind, which supports concentration and deeper meditation.
