Acaraje or Akara is perhaps one of the most popular and most delicious ones among Brazilian street flavors. Although it is fried in oil, it is a very light snack thanks to cowpea flour.
It is not difficult to prepare this African -based recipe.

We are practiced to use ground cowpea flour for recipe and allow you to get a smooth consistency. Nevertheless, you can choose to use the cowpea yourself by grinding yourself.

500 gr Karagöz cowpea flour
1 liter drinking water
1 large size dry onion
2 cloves of garlic or half a teaspoon of garlic powder
Some salt and pepper
Half a liter of palm oil -or another vegetable oil-
Preparation of
Finely chop the onions and garlic or pass through the kitchen processor.
Then blend the onions, garlic and salt and pepper thoroughly with cowpea flour. Add water gradually to the mixture.
Get support from the blender to obtain a homogeneous mixture.
It is a dense paste consistency that must be obtained after the materials are completely mixed.
When the paste consistency is obtained, lift the mixture to the refrigerator to rest.
Ventilate the dough in the refrigerator for 1 hour with a thoroughly mixed dough with a wooden spoon.
It’s time to fry!
Transfer the palm oil to a deep frying pan and heat well over medium heat.
Prepare round meatballs of large walnuts in your hand and throw them into oil. You can also use 2 teaspoons for this process.
Fry the acaraje meatballs until golden brown.
Cut the fried meatballs in half and fill them with the ingredients you want.
Taste your meatballs with tomato sauce, pepper, pickles, salsa sauce and of course shrimp.
Serve the Acarage hot hot.
